Here in British Columbia there are many reasons to be excited about the coming of Spring, and at Artisan SakeMaker the beginning of the new rice season ranks up there among the best of them. This year we are expanding production of our BC rice in an effort to meet customer demand.

This past week we have been hard at work washing, incubating and germinating seeds. Planting will start around the end of April or beginning of May, which will put us on track to harvest in the beginning of September.

First trays are packed with soil while the seeds are soaking.

The trays are then fed through a machine that plants and waters seeds in the trays.

Once the seeds have been sowed in the trays, the trays are placed in a temperature-controlled chamber to incubate/germinate.
