BC-Grown Rice

Artisan SakeMaker’s BC rice work began with a simple but ambitious belief. If sake was going to be made in Canada with real meaning, the grain behind it mattered too. What started as small trial plots across British Columbia has grown into ongoing rice cultivation in Abbotsford, where Artisan SakeMaker continues to plant, test, harvest, and learn from each season.

Today, Artisan SakeMaker grows rice in Abbotsford, harvesting approximately 4,000 kilograms in a typical year while continuing to test, refine, and learn from each season.

The project connects Japanese sake-making knowledge with local agriculture, bringing the winery closer to a true Canadian expression of sake shaped by local fields, local weather, and the long work of seeing what rice can become in British Columbia.
