Fall 2022 Newsletter
Well, this has been a year of wacky weather for our rice production; cold spring months of April through June and warmer than normal summer and fall months with little or no rain for weeks and months; quite a reversal of the last season that started with extreme high temperature in early June and ending with cold and very wet September and October.
On the positive side, however, maturity of rice seeds has become earlier in the last two seasons than any other previous years. This year we harvested in the last week of September, one week earlier than 2021. The ‘beneficial’ effect of Climate Change has helped our rice production in the Fraser Valley with hot and dry summer months that extended well into the fall, bringing positive prospect of better rice production potential in future years.
